Image is everything. But as soon as you create some look for your clients and they walk out of the door, it is gone. Hairstylists understand this the same as I do.

Each competition is different, and as much as I’ll put an effort into doing the best work to help you become one of the short-listed finalists, there is no perfect formula to judge what will be the winning collection as there is always a certain amount of luck involved.

Before the shoot

To every successful shoot the first step is the concept... a simple idea where we can start. We communicate through a mood-board. I strongly advise you to think about theme of the shoot. Tear pictures from magazines, pictures of clothes, colours, inspirations all materials that would give rest of the team an idea of what you are aiming for.
You get what you pay for- it’s about right people in the right positions.
Money is always the biggest issue and we always try to cut corners by choosing amateur models instead of the professional one. But remember that the right model in the longer term would help you to generate more publicity and more money. No magazine would like to print your pictures if the models are not right.
Yes, I agree that some of the amateurs are great, but some of them are not. You never know before the shoot how they going to perform on the day, with all of us watching.
Professional model draws people to the image. There is no point in spending huge amount of money on the best makeup artist or wardrobe stylist if the model is not right. You want to have the best images possible; models are like canvas, and will help you to express yourself.
A professional model will do justice to the team’s hard work, and will understand what you want to achieve.
But there are natural born models, true talents out there so if you can’t afford or find professional model you can try with new faces, some of them they are really great.
It is just easier and quicker to work with experienced models.

Right place at the right time

To create great images we need the right place to shoot. A studio is a great creative environment for a photographic session and can provide the space and inspiration for an exciting team dynamic.
I can advise on different studios, depending on budgets and locations, but if your business premises have a floor space of at least 12×24 ft, with a high ceiling, then this could also be an option. It doesn’t have to be a salon it can be basement or underground garage, but please make sure that there is access to the electric sockets so we can plug in some lighting and that we have permission to shoot there.

Real costs

Yes sometimes you may think that, what is the point of spending money if you can choose your friend’s son who studies photography and ask him to shoot for you.
But what would be real cost of that? How can you be sure that you would end up with great work? That he will deliver quality that you expect?
You cannot really take this risk if you are serious about your work.
My fees are very reasonable, you have to check real cost of EVERY photographic session when you are planning your budget for your session, and your costing should include:

Let’s shoot – the big day

It is all about preparation, make sure that everything and everyone is prepared and all your equipment works.
Make a time schedule as time is money and the best way is to organise everything in an hour slots.
If you do not know how to do that, do not be shy just ask, I’m there to help, not someone who just wants to take your money, I’m there to create great work with you, to help you achieving your vision.
The best way is when I and rest of the team we will come half an hour before the first model, so we can start preparing the lighting and the set.
After an hour when the first model arrives it is the makeup artist’s turn to work with model, then hair and clothes and then model will start working with me. Meantime you can start with next model. The reason is that makeup artist can do only one model at the time.
Please choose one person as Art Director who will control what I will be shooting and will approve photos so we can finish with having the right shots.

Why do I need to have a shoot in the first place?

Well, it is simple. Excellent images can have great impact on your business.
Amazing images can be a great PR tool and can lead to coverage in national, local, consumer and trade press. You can use images on your salon windows, walls, leaflets, appointment cards, and website and everywhere you would like to promote yourself.
I can even add your logo into the final pictures you would like to print.
Photo shoots can be a fantastic reward for your best stylist, they will inject new energy into your creative team and will help the creative juices flow motivating and reinvigorating the whole team… and great photos reflect well on you and your salon – and can, of course be used to enter competitions… what are you waiting for???
